Six Ways CORE for Teacher Education Has Improved for EPPs

July 8, 2026

I've spent the last nine years working with programs as they evaluate and implement CORE, and I've even had the chance to contribute to product research and strategy. But my favorite part is still demoing a feature and watching someone realize, "This is actually going to save me a lot of time." Those moments never get old.

That was true again on our latest product spotlight webinar, where I walked educator preparation programs through six improvements to CORE's teacher prep management software: field experience video, access roles, placement adjustments, school application workflows, student binders, and CAEP-aligned reporting. This recap covers what has recently been enhanced and why.

What Do EPPs Need from Teacher Prep Management Software?

Nine years of building these partnerships means I've heard some version of the same four challenges from nearly every program I've talked to.

Ther four challenges that come up repeatedly in conversations with programs include:

  1. Faculty score rubrics in one system, then re-enter the same data elsewhere, creating room for inconsistency
  2. CAEP preparation turns into a scramble because data lives in five or more disconnected places
  3. Cooperating teachers disengage when the evaluation process is too complicated, leaving evaluation gaps
  4. Programs scale candidate numbers without real-time visibility into placements or outstanding evaluations

Every one of these traces back to the same root cause: friction somewhere in the process, for the people entering data or the people approving it.

Less friction for cooperating teachers and faculty means more completed evaluations, submitted on time, which adds up to more complete data for your program.

What's Enhanced in CORE for Education?

Field experience videos

Candidates record classroom sessions in CORE; supervisors annotate directly on the footage

Custom access roles

Configure roles like site liaisons or co-supervisors to match your program's actual structure

Placement adjustments

Reschedule or reassign candidates without rebuilding a placement from scratch

School application workflows

Manage candidate applications to placement sites end to end, on their behalf

Student binders

Consolidate hours, assignments, evaluations, and videos into one candidate-owned record

CAEP-aligned reporting

Pull accreditation-ready reports, including an ELSi database integration for school data

How Do Field Experience Videos Work in CORE?

Candidates can now record classroom sessions directly in CORE, and supervisors add feedback right on the footage instead of in a separate tool.

  • Candidates record sessions from a mobile device
  • Supervisors clip, annotate, and comment directly on the video
  • A full transcript is generated for every submission
  • Assessments can be applied to video submissions the same way they apply to other evidence
  • Candidates can track their own performance across recording sessions from their home page

Can Programs Create Custom Access Roles?

Yes. Programs can configure access roles that match their actual structure instead of fitting staff into a preset role.

This matters because most programs already have co-supervisors, adjunct coordinators, and specialized faculty roles that don't map cleanly onto generic student, teacher, or faculty categories.

How Does CORE Handle Placement Adjustments and School Applications?

Placement changes and site applications are both easy to manage without starting over or leaving your school partners waiting.

For placement adjustments:

  • Reschedule a candidate to a new site, or reassign a different candidate to an existing school slot, without rebuilding the placement.
  • Transfer logged hours, completed evaluations, and finished assignments to the new schedule automatically
  • Notify the candidate and the cooperating teacher or principal automatically

For school applications:

  • Create and send applications to principals directly from CORE on a candidate's behalf
  • Select the relevant practicum or placement type before sending
  • Monitor where candidates are applying and track outcomes in one place

Both updates protect the relationships your program has built with partner schools by keeping communication and data changes in sync.

What Is a Student Binder in CORE?

A student binder consolidates a candidate's hours, assignments, videos, and evaluations into one profile that updates automatically as the candidate progresses.

  • Populates on its own as candidates log hours or submit requirements
  • Gives programs a single view of where each candidate stands across field experience and student teaching
  • Can be shared with cooperating teachers when appropriate
  • Students can download their binder to keep the records after graduation.

Programs don't have to build anything manually here. The binder assembles itself from work candidates are already doing in the system.

How Does CORE Support CAEP Accreditation Reporting?

CORE's reporting suite includes filters built specifically around CAEP requirements, so the data collected all year maps directly to what accreditors ask for.

  • Run filtered reports on schedules, placements, demographics, and more
  • Pull school and site data automatically through an ELSi database integration covering elementary and secondary schools nationwide
  • Use the same underlying data for day-to-day program management and end-of-cycle accreditation reporting

This removes the need to rebuild a CAEP-ready view from scratch every reporting cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions About CORE for Teacher Education

Do candidates keep their student binder after graduation? The binder data belongs to the candidate, and needs to be downloaded upon graduation to keep permanently.

Can candidates record evaluation videos from a mobile device? Yes. Candidates can record directly from their phone.

Does CORE integrate with Canvas for didactic key assessments? Yes. Candidates submit assessments in Canvas, and those results tie back to specific outcomes in CORE.

How are pre-student teaching and student teaching hours tracked? All hours are tracked directly in CORE ELMS, whether through a clock-in system or another logging method, and everything reports from one place.

Are these enhancements available now, or coming later? All six enhancements covered here are live today. Programs already partnering with CORE ELMS can ask their implementation contact to turn them on.
