From Rotation Matching to Accreditation: How CORE Powers Pharmacy Education
Explore how Binghamton University’s School of Pharmacy uses CORE ELMS to streamline rotation matching, simplify accreditation preparation, and save time with SmartMatch and centralized reporting.
Hi. My name is Marissa Langette. I am the assistant director for Experiential Education at Binghamton University School of Pharmacy. At our school, we use ELMS to manage and schedule our clinical rotations for our PharmD students. We also use it for our Pharmacy Technician students as well. I think the biggest moment I realized that Core is making a difference for the team is really in the onboarding of new team members. With Core kind of being there as the back bone across these transitions, it's been really easy to get people integrated quickly into our system, and they have a good framework to kind of base all of their individual work on. I think we, as a team, have a pretty good handle on Core's basis and sort of how it works. But every year, if there's something new that comes out that kind of adds another layer to complexity that we can just quickly kind of add on, save some time, or potentially, like, new areas to to spend more time and focus on sort of in our own roles. My favorite feature in QuoraMath is probably SmartMatch. It's probably the single largest time saver for me. The best thing about SmartMatch is its ability to look at all of the students preferences and make as many good choices as possible. If I've tried to do that in the past, it would probably take me a week and the students would not be as happy and then it has that level of human error that ELMS can just take care of for me. Core is sort of the the backbone of my plans for accreditation. We have our next site visit in a couple years and with the new standards that have come out for pharmacy, there are a lot of changes. And knowing that Core has all of our data for the last five plus years that we can pull, we can adjust it and have it work to the new standards, makes everything feel a lot more comfortable as we're moving towards sort of the self study and the actual in person visit phase. I feel confident that Core has what we need and we can pull what we need from it. So I'm most excited for conditional logic in core survey evaluations forms, all of that. Something like that that gives me more power in the surveys and the questions that I ask preceptors and students, that'll make the data that we get a lot richer. We're really excited for how, Comp MS is kind of growing and and updating. The big thing that we're looking forward to doing is mapping our curriculum across all of the years. My biggest advice for new programs that are interested and programs in general that are interested in using Core is to take the time at the beginning to set things up as you want. There's a lot of details and complexities that you can add into Core. Spending that time early on and really getting that level of detail in early will make your setup a year from now so much easier. Every year, I'm learning something new on something that's existed that I can sort of tweak and make it work for the students and make them happier. And I don't think I'd be able to do that if I didn't have the connections with the customer service team, but also the other people who utilize Core.
