University of Connecticut Centralizes Clinical Compliance at Scale with CORE ELMS
See how the University of Connecticut centralizes clinical compliance, contracts, and program data across 25+ programs using CORE ELMS—improving efficiency, reporting, and risk mitigation at scale.
Hi, I'm Bambi Miraz from the University of Connecticut. I am the senior compliance specialist in our office of Clinical Placement Coordination, is our central office where we manage compliance and contracts for twenty five plus programs across UConn representing all of the clinical and practicum programs that the university offers. At UConn we currently primarily use ELMS although one school does use CompMS and then another school uses Microd. There are certain things that we manage at the central level, specifically site tree and agency requirements, and then we're able to run reports and audit things based on that for all of the programs that we support. At the same time, at each of the individual school, college, and department levels, they are leveraging other pieces of the system to do things like evaluations, scheduling, preceptor management, all of that good stuff. UConn has been working with CORE for, I wanna say at least a dozen years. Our school of pharmacy was a very early adopter and then sort of in the late twenty tens, some other schools started to get on board. I think the main value of having most of our programs using Core is that everyone is kind of in the same eco system. They are tracking the same kinds of data points. They are having a similar experience both for the admins and for the students. And then from our perspective centrally, it is really crucial for risk mitigation to have everyone treating things the same way. We did a bunch of research, started working with CORE, and it was almost immediate that I was able to see even going through implementation, I could see how this was going to benefit me in my role and my program directors as well as our students. It's probably many, many, many hours a week that it saves our admins working through all these processes for their students. One of the things that I know from my own experience using Core and then talking with our admins is that Core, especially ELMS, is great for scalability. So when you have a small number of students it can automate a lot of things but then as you scale up your program those automations can continue to work for you. So if I were to give some advice to a school that is considering using Core, I would say first of all, don't hesitate, just move forward. Because Core is great to work with and they will work with you to customize your system to your needs, which is amazing. And the second thing that I would say is don't try to just replicate your old process within Core and be open to the changes that a system like this can offer in terms of efficiencies and streamlining because those benefits are huge and outweigh so many of the old paper type processes that we were all using. We look forward to seeing what the future holds and all the new features and all the new things that are gonna come out and make our lives even better.
