One of the hardest parts of helping students achieve their career goals is knowing the huge span of their specific interests and life ambitions. With limited time and resources, how can career centers know which student dreams of finding a journalism job in New York City and which wants to become a data scientist in San Francisco?
Our partners across the U.S. have been eager for a way to get a bird’s eye view on their student and mentor population so they can do a better job creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem of happy students and happy mentors.
Well, it’s finally here! We at PeopleGrove are excited to launch Community Balance, a tool that will help keep your network of students and mentors in perfect equilibrium. After all, to work well, a community must be balanced, right?
With Community Balance, you can now easily spot whenever you have a supply-and-demand issue. Whether you look by major, industry, or location, Community Balance will show you a clear picture of exactly who you have in your network.
For example, you’ll be able to see if you have 40 students who dream of finding a job in New York City, but only four mentors who work in NYC. Then, you can use that information to recruit more mentors from New York.
On the flip side, Community Balance will also help you catch when you have an oversupply. Say, for example, you have 30 marine biologist mentors, but no students eager to learn about their profession within the network. No one wants to disappoint the mentors who signed up with lackluster interest from students, so keeping a healthy balance in the numbers is of vital importance. To fix the imbalance, you can take that information to the Department of Biology and encourage their students to participate in your network to connect with mentors who can give them the skinny on their dream jobs.
By knowing who wants what, Community Balance will help our partners better serve both students and mentors. It will empower you to:
With that, we wish you happy balancing!
