One adage we hear constantly in the marketplace is that students don’t have the competencies to be successful in today’s job market. Hundreds of pieces have been written about the “skills gap” that employers claim exist between college and career.

But do students really not have the skills? Or do learners simply need help in connecting the classroom theory into practical usage?

Join us on Tuesday, October 10th at 1pm ET/10am PT for Scaling Experiential Learning for Underserved Students. This discussion on experiential learning (EL) will cover why these opportunities are so vital to connecting the classroom and career. We’ll be joined by representatives from two institutions who are dedicated to fostering EL opportunities and ensuring learners are set up for success. Our discussion will also focus on scaling these opportunities to EVERY student and filling identified gaps in EL participation.

During this presentation, you’ll learn:

  • Why experiential learning (EL) is so vital to preparing students for life after college
  • How to think about EL and create meaningful opportunities
  • How to engage key stakeholders to create lasting EL structures
  • How to identify and fill identified gaps in EL participation, especially for traditionally underserved students

Speakers:

  • Kimberly Filer, Associate Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning; Director Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Virginia Tech
  • Sandra Sjoberg, Associate Dean & Director, Marketing & Innovation Programs, College of Business at Western Governors University
  • Jared Moffett, Founding Director, Office of Experiential Learning at Bowie State University
  • Matt Kelly, Director of Strategic Marketing at PeopleGrove
